Great Britain & Ireland were forced to make an unexpected change to the opening foursomes after PGA Cup veteran Paul Simpson was ruled out due to sickness.
The West Berkshire pro, who was a member of the 1998 team, was due to play with Jamie Harris. However, he informed captain Gary Alliss at 5.50am that he would not be fit to play. Simpson was replaced by Houghwood's Barry Taylor in the opening pair.
The new GB&I pairing, both making their debut in the PGA Cup, were first off the tee taking on US rookies Kyle Flinton and Sonny Skinner.
Simpson has not been ruled out from this afternoon's fourballs with Alliss leaving his selections as late as possible. He has to name his pairings by 11.45am.
