The Llandudno Trophy - forever presented to the winners of the PGA Cup

While the PGA Cup was first played in 1973, the magnificent trophy which both teams contest has a much longer history dating back to before the Second World War.

Its origins lie with the members of Masedu Golf Club in Llandudno who put up the 18-pound piece of silverware as the prize for the Home Tournament Series between professionals from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Percy Alliss retained possession of the Llandudno Trophy after the Home Tournament Series

The first match was played in 1939 and England, captained by six-time Ryder Cup player Percy Alliss, triumphed to hoist the trophy. It was however to be the first and last staging of the Home Tournament Series which was interrupted due to the outbreak of war and never resumed.

As winning captain however Alliss had retained possession of the trophy which took pride of place on the family mantelpiece. It was during the war that the trophy sustained a famous dent - now fixed.
